Hundreds stage 'die in' at Heathrow's Terminal 2

Other | Wednesday 2nd November 2016 | Arren

Demonstration at Europe's busiest airport sees hundreds 'drop dead'.

The 'die in' flashmob saw hundreds of activists campaigning against airport expansion by lying across Heathrow's 2nd Terminal floor.

Protesters laid on the ground wearing white masks and displaying banners 'to highlight the climate and pollution impacts of aviation'.

Another demonstration took place outside the airport with cyclists dressed in red rode to Harmondsworth detention centre and laid on the ground there, highlighting the link between climate change and migration.

Gatwick also saw a demonstration with protesters having a picnic outside the airport. These three protests all coincided with a day of global demonstrations as the International Civil Aviation Organisation held a conference discussing the aviation industries impact on climate change.

Reclaim The Power, the group who organised the #StayGrounded demonstrations, are calling for the Government to not expand any airport in the UK and to force the aviation industry to be bounded by climate change regulations.

Mary Adams from Reclaim the Power, said: "Expanding airports is completely irresponsible and will bring us out of reach of our own targets to stop climate change.
