A record number of people are alive thanks to organ donation

Thanks to organ donors, 50,000 people are now alive in the UK, the NHS blood and transplant services say.
This figure is a 20% increase from 5 years ago and the number of people now on the organ donor register is also is up by a record 4.9 million for the same time span.
The organ to be transplanted the most was the kidney, with 36,300 patients receiving new kidneys.
So, if you haven’t already, now’s the time to register to be an organ donor, it only takes 2 minutes.
