Transfer Deadline Day - Your Soundtrack to the Big Buys

Other | Monday 2nd September 2013 | James

We’ve had record signings, big spending and managerial mind games, but today marks the end of yet another football transfer window. With only a few hours left on the clock, we’re bringing you five great tunes to accompany the emotional rollercoaster that is deadline day.

Kasabian – Club Foot

It was Sky Sport’s theme tune for a while (ahh in the good old days of Andy Gray) and featured on the soundtrack of the inspirational, although mediocre, film Goal! Anyhow, it’s a song that will get you pumped up pre-match and raring to go. Let’s hope all of today’s signings have this one playing in the locker room.

Jamiroquai – Feels Just Like It Should

Here is a song that, for me, emulates a great football match. In fact, the next time you get fed up with Andy Townsend’s commentary I’d thoroughly recommend muting the telly and sticking this on.

Fatboy Slim – Rockafella Skank

It was the pinnacle of the FIFA 99 soundtrack, need I say anymore.

The Beatles – Hey Jude

A song you could play after a cup final win or loss, and it would have the same effect. You can still hear remnants of the tune chanted throughout stadiums on a Saturday afternoon (although the lyrics are usually slightly altered)

U2 – Beautiful Day

It was the soundtrack to ITV’s flagship show The Premiership with Des Lynham (remember him? He had particularly pointy eyebrows) and captures everything at the heart of the footballing psyche. It’s possibly the greatest song to play when your team scores a goal.

James Davies.
