On This Day ... What made this day, the 12th August, significant in music history?
Back in 1960 Pete Best auditioned to become 'The Silver Beatles' drummer. He was successful and was asked to join the band, the evening of their first Hamburg season club dates. The band later dropped the word Silver from their title and sacked Best, leaving one bitter band mate and the name of one of the biggest bands in the world.
The Beatles again made music history on this date, hitting headlines six years later. On this day, in 1966 John Lennon apologised for his remark 'the Beatles are more popular that Jesus.' Maybe not the most modest of remarks...
In the world of rap, back in 1963 a 'Baby Got Back' from the hospital when Anthony Ray aka Sir Mix-A-Lot was born. Skip forward to 2001 and the unforgettable '21 Seconds' was brought to number one by So Solid Crew.
Finally, this time last year the betting is you probably watched the 2012 Olympic closing ceremony. If you didn't you missed out on some of Britain's best performing for the three hour music extravaganza. Surely no one will ever forget Boris dancing to the spice girls?
