A Lister Interview

Guestlist Welcomes A Lister

A Lister (aka Alex Lister), is a 23 year old house producer and DJ from Bradford. After years of being involved in the local scene, Alex decided to change his sound and push himself to release his own original, quality music.

His first release, ‘Your Soul’ in 2012 entered the Traxsource Top 20, gaining Alex wider support and recognition around the globe. 2013 has seen Alex gain several Traxsource Top 10s, including a Deep House #1 spot, making his productions widely sought after and pushing his name further out there in the house music scene.

With support coming in from names such as: Supernova, Homework, Huxley, Roger Sanchez, Ejeca, Grant Nelson, Amine Edge & Dance, Perseus & Jonas Rathsman, Kraak & Smaak, Chocolate Puma, Shur-I-Kan, Dale Howard, plus plays on Radio1, Kiss FM and Rinse, A Lister is definitely a name to keep an eye out for in the near future.

We asked him a few questions.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your music?

Hi, I'm Alex, 23 year old producer/DJ from Bradford. I'd say my music's quite dancefloor orientated, or at least for me anyway. I do try to make stuff that I can play out myself and enjoy, nothing worse than not being able to play your own tunes.

Where did your interest in house/garage begin?

I'm not 100% sure myself, it's just one of those where you hear a couple of tracks and latch on.

You're from Bradford, what's the music scene like there?

Awful to be honest, it's either commercial/cheesy or chavvy, not really a Deep House scene. But with Leeds and Bradford being close it doesn't matter all that much.

What's been your favourite set to date? Where has the best atmosphere?

Heroes @ Egg in London back in June, got to try out a few of my new tracks that I'd been holding back for a while, and I probably played a lot more of my own stuff than I'd usually play, which was quite inspiring as people knew them, so you do kind of think to yourself "this is definitely what I want to keep pursuing". Atmosphere was ace too, everyone on the same wavelength, no trouble - just good vibes all round!

Which of your tracks usually gets the best reaction?

Probably 'Addiction', it's just a catchy riff with a solid vocal. My remix of Ali Scott's ‘Dream Machine’ goes down pretty well too. I've got a lot more that I really want to try out for the first time too, so hopefully the rest of the year goes well booking wise and I'll be able to showcase them in my sets.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would you choose?

Huxley would be great to collab with; he can do no wrong at the moment!

Who are you listening to right now? Do you have a favourite track?

Huxley, Dale Howard, Martin Ikin, Dene Antony, James Dexter, Leftwing & Kody, No Artificial Colours, Scott Diaz, Cause & Affect, Hector Couto and probably 100 more ha!

Favourite track - bit of an older one but I can't stop listening to it lately: Lovebirds ft. Stee Downes - Want You In My Soul. Perfect track in my eyes.

Do you have anything exciting planned for the future?

My first overseas bookings, including a festival. Plenty of remixes to come out, and also I've started to make some more original tracks again as I've been slacking on that front, so I've got an EP I've just finished, which will be coming out on Love Not Money Records over the next few months.
