Walter Ego goes Super Saiyan on new grime EP
RnB/Hip Hop | Thursday 3rd August 2017 | Alex
Sheffield producer Walter Ego, whose collaborations with the likes of Trim and Slick Don established him as the go-to guy for MCs looking for off the wall beats, returns with three hard-as-nails grime instrumentals.
The Seven Star Ball EP is inspired by Dragon Ball Z, and there's subtle references to the beloved anime dotted throughout, with a raw energy that mirrors Goku's Super Saiyan charge.
Opener 'Raw' is a murky, 808 heavy hitter with creepy, Hitchcock-esque strings, 'Sensu Beans' supplies a more mindful and melodic edge, while Goku's Legend wraps up the EP with a discordant urgency — eerie synth toplines and sparse percussion build up then break out into a thunderous beat.
