Fun in the sun for Guy Gerber's debut London street party

House | Wednesday 19th July 2017 | Cristina

Last Saturday's RUMORS was British summer in London at its best. The weather was spotless, and one of the world's best DJs was holding a bohemian street party under the shadows of the towers of the City.

We arrived slighly later than we'd intended, so unsurprisingly the venue was already packed out and moving in unison to the Acid Mondays' eclectic yet energetic set. The street party was part of the Guy Gerber's RUMORS events series; one that has made its name through clandestine free entry parties in Ibiza.

The characteristic RUMORS décor was out in full force; a combination of swinging parasols and exotic lanterns above our heads, colourful bunting, sprouting flowers all around the decks and the huge RUMORS lettering lit up above them was a sight to behold. Crowd-wise, the party had attracted a more mature, attractive and stylishly dressed group of people than you might expect from such an event in London.

After dOP had hyped up the crowd with their energetic blend of live vocals and electronic beats, Guy took to the decks with great fanfare. Dressed in a Japanese print shirt and wearing his trademark hair feathers, he looked every inch the eccentric leader of this particularly attractive, free-spirited kingdom.

In typical fashion, Guy wasn’t giving too much away immediately – his set began with a more meandering tone, leading the audience on a gradual journey up to a no holds-barred final half hour, with his recent release ‘Secret Encounters’ providing a particularly euphoric hands-in-the-air moment.

With this party having evidently been a sell-out success, we were delighted to hear that Guy's next London date will be a headline gig at the huge Roundhouse in Camden where there should be plenty more room for dancing; tickets are now available on Resident Advisor.
