The Rumors were true – Guy Gerber is amazing
Of a cold February evening, the Guestlist crew headed to Guy Gerber’s snowballingly great party Rumors. Held on Saturday night at the cavernous south London club space Great Suffolk Street Warehouse, the party’s lineup beasted a lethal combo of Bas Ibellini, Acid Mondays, Behrouz, Bill Patrick and Lee Burridge, with Israeli techno god Guy Gerber heading up affairs.
As London party goers know, Great Suffolk Street Warehouse was made for techno, with its industrial, stone walls reaching high into the gloom, the booming kick of Gerber’s signature four-to-the-floor beat was given ample breathing space. The sold out night was rammed, which goes to show that when your party was made in Ibiza, it will retain the popularity of an Ibiza party.
In collaboration with London promoters Unleash, Rumors has become a mainstay of the international techno scene. Bill Patrick played a highlight set. When he dropped house, it was received well, mixed smartly into a slew of German techno. When Guy hit the stage, the venue was still rammed – it’s refreshing to see a club event committedly about the music and a crowd just as committed.
Guy dropped his banger of last year, Secret Encounters, and more people reacted in recognition and joy than can fairly be expected for a crowded sweatbox at 6am. Released on his own label, Rumors, the tune is a great indication of how far Gerber has come and a great starting point for new fans of Gerber or techno.
