Horizon Festival ticks all the right boxes

In its second year, Horizon Festival gathered some big names on even bigger slopes in the Bulgarian town of Bansko and certainly did not disappoint. With a lineup that catered for everyone's tastes, amazing vibes and zero club hassle...this is definitely up there with one of the best value-for-money festivals we have been to.
There once was a time when we would have questioned who came up with the idea of putting skiing together with a music festival. Those hazy earlyish mornings, when all you really want to do is sleep, grab (literally) a bite for breakfast and reminisce over the previous night's events are all what you expect from the average 'day after.' The idea of extreme physical activity simply just doesn't fit into a daily schedule.
This time round at Horizon...we're not going to lie...it was a struggle to get up on that first morning. But once you were up on the slopes with that fresh mountain air sparking your brain back into life, you realised that this was the ultimate comedown/hangover killer. Whoever came up with this idea...pure genius. The clublife and bars on the slopes also helped out a little.
The Sunday was the first night we ventured out and this was to catch John Talabot at the Gardenia Hotel. Space wise we get why this was the hotel for the headline acts in the main town. Its distance from the other venues was a drawback. We can only say about JT that he was amazing. Technically brilliant is this man...If you ever get the opportunity to see him, then do. We arrived just as Moxie was on and she certainly grabbed a piece of the spotlight by putting on a fantastic set.
Monday was all about the D&B... every single minute was devoted to it. We found our way to Oxygen to catch Hybrid Minds who found a great rapport with the crowd and set the scene for some serious drum and bass action. The night continued with Simple Technique who turned the bass up and made it one of our favourite nights of the festival. It also happened to be one of our favourite clubs in town... thanks to the in-house balloon - seller!
We took ourselves for a drink on Tuesday. And then several more drinks. And by that point we headed downtown back to the Gardenia for the one and only Goldie. Old school raving will bring one of the best atmospheres in a club as we all know and everyone pulled together to have an incredible night.
Wednesday served up a night of house music with Ame blazing the decks at Jack's House. Some thumping bass and furious two-stepping was the aim of the night and top marks in both departments were achieved. Thursday was our last night out (and also conveniently St Paddys Day) and Dan Shake also put on an unshakeable set for the 'earlier' part of the evening. Nina Kravitz was rightly on the bill to end the festival on a high note.
The town itself, Bansko, offered up friendly service from all the locals and catered well for the festival-goers. Rooms were cheap at £30 each and the ski prices, being some of the cheapest in Europe, made sure we came back with at least a few pennies left in the bank. Everyone at Horizon had an amazing time and we would highly recommend this as a festival. Many were back from last year which is a good sign for years to come.
