London's Newest Trend Is Pissing People Off

Other | Wednesday 30th March 2016 | Tom

As London’s super rich are finding it increasingly difficult to buy property, they have come up with a new way to purchase the land they want and piss people off at the same time.

They are building luxury basements that contain swimming pools, gyms and elevators, there has even been a request for a rifle range.

Property developers are now adding millions onto their already pricey properties by creating lairs worthy of a Bond villain. These houses have been given the nickname ‘Icebergs’ owing to the fact such large portions of them are unseen and underground.

But when their next door neighbours realise that they are digging around the foundations of their own houses they are less than pleased. Some boroughs have now restricted these projects after complaints and worries from neighbours.

One floor of basement is estimated to cost £150,000 and take 4 months to complete.

There has been 800 basement ‘extensions’ carried out in Kensington with the last 4 years.

This property in Westminster is estimated to cost between £5-8 million

These are the plans proposed for the six bedroom house.
