Permanent VR cinema to hit Amsterdam

Other | Tuesday 8th March 2016 | Arash

A media company in Amsterdam has been experimenting with what it calls “VR Cinema.” After much testing in pop-up theatres around Europe, Samhoud Media has finally announced that they will be opening a permanent VR Cinema theatre in Amsterdam.

With plans to open more permanent VR Cinemas in other countries including Paris, Madrid, London and even Berlin, we can be expected to go and check out a range of movies in full 360 degree view.

The “screening rooms” aren’t all that conventional either, instead of having rows of chairs facing a screen; viewers will sit in swivel chairs, putting the VR gear developed by Samsung and a pair of Sennheiser HD 201 noise cancelling headphones for a full 360 degree experience.

Although there is no real information confirmed for what “movies” will be shown, according to VentureBeat, a “film package” will be provided that will last a total of around 35 minutes.

It may not seem like a very long time, but for the reasonable price of €12.50 (around £9.69) the VR video clips are said to be designed to exhibit the full extent of just how immersive VR technology can be.
