Makers of Call of Duty sued for €1m

Other | Wednesday 17th February 2016 |

Activision, the makers of Call of Duty: Black Ops II, are being sued by the family of late Angolan rebel chief Jonas Savimbi for €1million.

Savimbi's three children are seeking compensation from the best-selling game's defamation of their father, who is portrayed as "a barbarian brute - a big halfwit who just wants to kill everyone". Although noted as someone who fought for freedom by Ronald Reagan, Savimbi was prominent in numerous horrific incidents, as well as leading the Unita movement that led to a devastating civil war against the Angolan government.

Whilst his Paris-residing children demand €1million in damages, Activision has stated that Savimbi's characterisation in their game, which has sold 250 million copies worldwide, is actually "rather favourable".
