Other | Tuesday 16th February 2016 | Arash

Given the bad reputation given to Iran by the media, you might not ever think of travelling there, but it is in fact one of the best kept secret travel destinations in the world.

A large and diverse country, Iran has everything from arid deserts to lush forests and steppes, to rugged mountains and calm beaches.

Alongside the natural beauty, Iran also has many manmade features that’ll leave you in awe. Chehel Sotoun (literally translating to Forty Columns), a pavilion with twenty columns at the entrance which then reflect in the pool just outside the pavilion, making it forty is a great site to go to for anyone visiting.

Iran’s history is deep and rich, as is its culture, with some of the world’s greatest ancient sites in Persepolis.

In addition to this, Iran’s people are friendly and hospitable, always curious about the outside world and any foreigners to come to visit, coupled with the intricate etiquette system of Taarof sees that all guests are welcome, no matter where they come from.

And if none of that convinces you to visit Iran, then maybe the cuisine will convince you. With a wide range of different foods, drinks and pastries to try, there are many regions in Iran with some unique foods to give your taste buds a flavour of what Iran is really about.
