Californian Farmer Gives 700 Acres of Land Back to Native Americans

Other | Monday 15th February 2016 | Arash

A farmer in California has decided to give 700 acres of land back to a Native American tribe that was taken away from them in 1925.

Taking five years of fundraising of six million dollars by a number of groups and another two million by Sonoma County, the dream finally became a reality for the Kashia Band of the Pomo Native American tribe when they got their rightfully deserved land back, allowing them to now enjoy the coastal region which they once fished, hunted and lived free in.

The tribe will manage and protect the land as open space in addition to using the land to educate the public about the history, rituals and practises of the native people in the area.
