A lesson in the art of Jungle | Potential Badboy self entitled.

Drum and Bass | Thursday 29th October 2015 | Arren

Many producers are going back to the roots and producing some wicked jungle music right now, but just to teach everyone a lesson Potential Badboy returned with a huge album out on DJ Hype’s Playaz.

An unsung hero of the jungle sound Potential Badboy, real name Chris, was there back in the days, with a back catalogue of those kind of jungle tracks worthy of a rewind… or five! After smashing the jungle scene in the early 90s with a string of hefty dancefloor killers he moved to garage for a while under the name of Chris Mack where he scored official remix duties for those at the top in their field like Shaggy and Nelly, no big deal.

In 2003 Chris decided to move back to drum & bass joining up with Hype’s Playaz collective. Once he joined up he wasted no time in proving his talents with tracks Girlz and You’re Mine raining down onto the scene with huge impact. He’s been steadily releasing EPs and singles here and there on the Playaz collective but he was ready to flood the scene with tonnes fresh music and a few updated versions of his classics.

His second album is a 16 tracked project that’s self entitled as Potential Badboy.  The jungle legend reclaims his position in the scene not watering down the sound one bit - this album could teach a few people a thing or two. He wastes no time getting straight into the wobbly basslines and wicked drum structures that are complemented from some of the best MCs in the game, MC Singing Fats, MC Det, and Yush to name a few. Alongside some fresh material like the wonky Natty and Take A While that’s primed for the steppers some of his older material has been reborn into this age, with a huge step mix of the classic Girlz, a VIP edit of I Need A Roof and an exclusive Annix remix of You’re Mine adding a little jump up flavour to the album.

The whole album is classic Potential Badboy so if you’re a fan already you’ll love it, and if you’ve somehow missed him then this album will perfectly sum up his sound that has always been rattling around on the underground circuit. Its jungle madness with a splash of reggae dub vibes thrown in, a perfect combination!
