Pacha Festival Amsterdam

It was something of a coup for Amsterdam to secure the rights to hold Pacha Festival - it is a revered one that is recognised around the world, but the Dutch capital sure made the most of its chance. The setting for the event was perfectly beautiful, with long and lazy canals winding around us on all sides and the sun beating down.
Just as perfect as the scenery were the sounds, right from the word go. It was Defected’s hot star in the making Franky Rizardo who first got us going with his bouncing selections and catchy vocals. After him on the main stage came the legendary dub house inventor that was MK. His 90 minute set was a masterclass in blending the old with the new, joining the dots between different strands of house, and he sure had the crowd going mental.
As the day moved on, the main stage sounds got darkenrand moodier, and that was just what was required as dancers got drunker and a little more tired. Keeping them going all night though were the likes of Sander Kleinenberg vs Audio Bullys and Bingo Players, all of whom offered up some shiny, polished prog house melodies, dirty beats and EDM leaning club sounds that really smacked you around the face.
Appealing to those with slight more underground tastes was the stage headed up by US house legend and Objectivity boss Dennis Ferrer, who kept people on their toes with his always classy selections and slick mixing. After him came a sterner techno test with the Terminal M label boss Monika Kruse. Her sounds were dark and involving and were the perfect way for the Insane stage to be closed down. Though we didn’t catch them, you could have also treated yourself to sets from the likes of DJ Sneak and Riva Starr, Roger Sanchez and many more across the three different stages.

Away from the music, the well organised festival offered plenty of food treats, a VIP deck for those wanting a higher class experience and also lots of fun in the form of the Hippy Market. It reminded us that Pacha has a long history with Ibiza and will always remember that fact wherever it is in the world. This was a fine festival for all sorts of reasons, and already we are looking forward to next year’s event.
