The R(e)volution of Kuduro Music

Welcome to one of the most prevalent underground sub genres of African house music, kuduro. What is kuduro you ask? Here’s a brief history; kuduro was born in the ghettos of Luanda, Angola in the 80s, it initially brought you a mixture of zouk, soca, and traditional local music.  By the 90s it began to blend with western techno, house, and even hip-hop, and here we are today with a gnarly combination of all of these.

Kuduro crosses genres and borders, you can’t put it in a box. In the Southern African music scene, kuduro sets the bar for what is acceptable house music. The genre has crossed borders and increasing popularity among modern artists and DJ’s such as Diplo, M.I.A., and Munchi.
