Listen to Kendrick Lamar's record breaking 'To Pimp A Butterfly'

RnB/Hip Hop | Tuesday 17th March 2015 | Jake

Kendrick Lamar has suddenly dropped his sophomore album, To Pimp A Butterfly, a week before the date it was initially scheduled to be released.

King Kendrick's follow up to Good Kid m.A.A.d City was initially pencilled in for release on the 23rd March, however, yesterday (March 16) saw the album made available to stream in full on Spotify, and also available to purchase on iTunes (here), as Kendrick's latest project fell in line with the recent trend of sudden album drops. Last week saw one of the enlisted tracks, 'King Kunta', released online, and notably both 'i' and 'Blacker The Berry', Kendrick's two prior releases are both featured alongside 'King Kunta' on the 16 song tracklist, which reads as follows:

1. Wesley's Theory
2. For Free?
3. King Kunta
4. Institutionalized
5. These Walls
6. u
7. Alright
8. For Sale?
9. Momma
10. Hood Politics
11. How Much A Dollar Cost
12. Complexion (A Zulu Love)
13. Blacker The Berry
14. You Ain't Gotta Lie (Momma Said)
15. i
16. Mortal Man

As is expected with a Kendrick Lamar release, social media is a buzz with feedback and discussion regarding the project, with many talking about the legendary Tupac dialogue which features on 'Mortal Man'. Although Kendrick has adopted a dramatically different sound to that projected in Good Kid m.A.A.d City, leading to many emphasising similarities with Outkast's iconic sound, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive thus far. I expect this one to continue growing on people for a while to come. Again, all hail King Kendrick.
