The wait is nearly over for all gamers out there as the next generation of games consoles have been announced with their respective specifications. Both Microsoft and Sony have released their 8th generation of console and will once again go head to head in a sales battle in their most eagerly anticipated bout.
In terms of hardware it is pretty much even, both companies have slightly modified controllers but the key components remain similar to previous generations, which will not anger devoted users too much. The consoles look very similar too, both have gone for a slick, black, minimalist design. Now for the real hardware, the components, again both have taken a similar approach with 8GB of RAM, a custom AMD chip and an eight-core processor included in both. Sony may take the upper hand in graphics with an enhanced GPU in comparison to Microsoft's.
Now for the juicy information, the prices, the Xbox One will be available at £429 while the PS4 will cost £349. A big difference in price there, with the PS4 costing £80 less which could make a difference when it comes to Christmas shopping on a budget. One reason for this is the consoles motion sensors, both have revamped existing motion sensors that were available before hand, but Xbox's Kinect 2.0 is included in the Xbox One bundle whereas PS4's Eye is available to purchase separately.
In general the Xbox One seems to be designed and focused on a more complete console. Integration to applications such as Netflix, Skype and even to regular TV are easier to the user via voice or motion integration, it seems the Xbox One is a family console. The PS4 seems to have focused on the gamer, with no restrictions on game lending or selling and has even taken to ribbing Microsoft's policy regarding these with a YouTube video.
Overall it's way too hard and way too early to call which console will end up on top in this latest battle, either way they will be dominating what is under the Christmas tree this year.
