Philadelphia’s ‘The Roots’ immortalised with giant Public Mural

Jimmy Fallon’s house band ‘The Roots’ have been painted across a The World Communication Charter School on South Street, Philadelphia.
Titled ‘Legendary’, the collage depicts the group’s history and was unwrapped by Philadelphia’s Mural Arts Programme on Friday, May 31st.
The group, who’d once busked in the same locale, were introduced by Mayor Michael Nutter and Mural Arts director Jane Golden. Drummer Questlove (Seriously I hate that, it reminds me of “Drummer Rigby” which is a stupid descriptor, despite signaling a harrowing story) joked “We used to walk around the streets of Philadelphia wondering ‘Where is my mural?” He got serious later on – "All we ever wanted was to make Philadelphia proud of us. It's an honor."
The mural is the work of Amber Art & Design artists Ernel Martinez, Charles Barbin, Tatyana Fazlalizadeh, Willis Humphey and Keir Johnston. The 6th annual ‘Roots Picnic’ happened a day later – The Roots headlined, obviously.
