Event review: Simian Mobile Disco + Martyn + John Heckle 18/05/2013 @ XOYO
We were warned to arrive before 10 as all the advance tickets had been sold out. But even that did not prepare us for the messy sweat fest ahead of us – in the best possible sense!
By 11pm, upstairs was already packed with partygoers singing loudly to house remixes of classic 90s anthems – it might’ve been early but the resident DJs ensured everyone remained on the dancefloor. However it became clear that everyone was waiting for Simian Mobile Disco’s arrival at half 1; by 1:15, downstairs was completely rammed with clubbers full of anticipation.
It was worth the wait – Simian Mobile Disco produced a floor-tearing set which sounded absolutely divine on XOYO’s high quality sound system. Despite the inevitable rising temperature, the duo knew exactly how to keep everyone dancing non-stop, proving their many years of experience and expertise as producers and DJs. The definite high point of the set came when they dropped their new release, a collaboration with Bicep, Sacrifice. As the instantly recognisable bassline kicked in, the whole crowd came alive.
It was the kind of night that leaves you buzzing right into the next day – both the serious house fans and less experienced clubbers within our group all agreed it was an amazing time.
