Hip Hop Album of the Month: 'Prisoner of Conscious' - Talib Kweli
Monday 20th May 2013 | Alex
'Prisoner of Conscious' is a soulful and dextrous effort from the Brooklyn native. We were lucky enough to grab a chat with Talib, and you can see what he had to say about it here.
Talib’s a cool guy. He’s performed with Q-Tip and obviously draws influence from the fun-loving, rapid-fire MC. ‘Prisoner of Conscious’ hit stores May 7th and is intended as a climax - its versatility gives Kweli the extensive stage his philosophising requires. He’s about maturity (although he’d probably call it ‘enlightenment’) and brings forward a highly personal record that tackles some massive issues.
Does he pull it off? I’d say he pretty much does. It’s intelligent stuff, socio-conscious hip hop over sparse and intimate production. If that’s not enough, he’s got some big names on board: Kendrick appears on ‘Push Thru’ and Wu-Tang’s RZA produces ‘Rocket Ships’.
You can catch him at Outlook Festival this summer, and check out his latest single here:
