Public Enemy's Chuck D has slated the use of the 'N' word in hip hop with targeted response to Jay-Z and Kanye's collaboration 'Watch the Throne' – more specifically, towards the track 'Ni**as' in Paris'.
Chuck D posted on social media the other night, "Standing ovation in Lyon France telling these folks we are African NOT Ngrs In Paris why I gotta travel PlanetEarth cleaning sht from USA?". Soon after, he turned to twitter continuing his outburst: "Blackfolk are hangin on a cliff in the USA. Calling us NGR & making youth think its normal & diggin it is like pushing us off it. It pay$ well."
'Ni**as in Paris' released last year has been criticised for its use of the 'N word', but until now there has been no comment from any high-profile artists surrounding the genre.
Fans on twitter responded to defend Jay-Z and Kanye as Chuck ricocheted the comments with "Yes JayZ is a very very sharp smart dude and gifted. But with great power comes responsibility, it is necessary to lead forward."
What do you think?
