16 Hole boots

Demo I See Darkness

16 Hole Boots were formed by an ambitious group of twenty-somethings, made up of Richey (Singer/ guitar), Alex (Guitar/ Singer), James (Bass) and Damian (Drums). The increasing popularity of punk music is taken advantage of by the band who are currently touring (mainly in small London venues) and unsigned.

Their categorization as a punk rock band is greatly exuded through the track ‘Crack Gun Pete’ which touches upon guitar riffs reminiscent of a sex pistols era. The playful lyrics of “His fur’s falling out, his teeth aren’t great” are the epitome of any punk rock band who more than anything don’t want to be taken seriously and while sincere in their love of so-called guitar music hold the ideals of most nay all punk rockers (that of which are to party and have fun).

Aesthetically the band provokes an indie image with no particular glimpse of originality, but then again who are we to judge a band on image? The New York Dolls (one of 16 Hole Boots’ many inspirations) came on stage donning female clothing suggesting a group of transvestites just wandered in. This band also produced some of the greatest punk rock music that has ever come out of the New York music scene.

The vocals of Lead singer and guitarist Richey Ostrowski are deep and echoing; either to prompt a heavier rock/ alt rock vibe or perhaps just to get himself noticed against the backdrop of heavy drums and prominent guitar riffs. Tonight’s acoustic set at Bar Solo, Camden, features two front men Alex and Richey and it will be interesting to see how Richey’s vocals will alter and adjust the band’s strived for punk/ alt rock sound.

The band suggest influences from greats such as Velvet Underground and New York Dolls which will hopefully in time hand them the stepping stone to embrace the prevalence of punk rock in 2013. With their songs wasting no time on lengthy intros it must be enthused that with time, and even for the most impatient of music fans- great things are ahead.
