Banning internet porn? Iceland is on it.

Other | Thursday 21st February 2013 | Suzanne

Zip those flies up gentlemen, because Iceland is banning internet porn and other countries might be following suite. As you might know, Iceland is quite the progressive country, not only do they have an openly gay president, but they also rewrote the constitution recently with actual input from its citizens. Now you must be thinking why such a progressive country would be banning access to anything at all. Aren’t they supposed to give as much freedom to their citizens as possible? Well, that’s just it; the reason why Iceland is initiating a ban on internet porn is because of its determination to create equal rights for everyone. Apparently children are first exposed to porn at age 11, which gives them an immediate negative depiction of women which destroys any chance of pure gender equality. And not only that, a lot of porn is quite violent, which can have a stronger effect on young people than desired and is known to spark violent thoughts in general. Iceland already has a law against printing and distributing porn, but they are determined to tackle the massive online realm of internet porn as well, which seems like an impossible task to some. So-called ‘hacktivists’ have already replied to Iceland’s initiative and claimed that whatever system Iceland is using, it must be a piece of cake to override. Well one thing is for sure, most geeks and computer nerds will not give up their most treasured Internet porn without a fight. The question is however, who is going to win?
