Resonators Hit South London

Tuesday 19th February 2013 | Megan

The Resonators hit the festival circuit hard over the summer. If you were lucky enough to catch them then it probably seems like an age ago since you were skanking out in the sunshine to their laid-back dub beats, and they seem to have been hiding away since, with only a few gigs to mark the release of their second album The Constant early in November.

But this month they brought their reggae roots inspired sound to the Magic Garden in Battersea, a venue describing itself as a ‘boutique festival pub’ and boasting a beer garden fully decked out with sofas and fairy lights. There couldn’t be a better place to see the Resonators than this.

The band got everyone up on their feet from the very start of their set, and the little dance floor was rammed with people by the end of ‘Family Familiar’, one of the stronger tracks on their album. With all eight members of the band on stage, there wasn’t a lot more room up there either.

Although the audience wasn’t quite as lively as the summer festival crowds, lead singers Kassia and Faye projected their positive vibes and energy to everyone around them, moving and skanking and smiling throughout.

It’s impossible to see the Resonators without coming away uplifted.  So while their gigs may be few and far between in these winter months, its definitely worth checking them out when they do come around. Until the next time, put on The Constant, turn up the bass and imagine you’re back in the fields.
