Forever young, forever tough

Familiar names made their AW debut yesterday with beautiful pieces and strong looks that would make any fashion enthusiast weep with joy, at least that was the case with us.

J.Crew hit us with what I like to call “Forever Young in the City” as all the pieces look like they were designed to fit the high fashion diva living in a hustling capital who manages to maintain a chic, detailed, and colourful edge in all the chaos. Other than Marc by Marc Jacobs, J.Crew’s line is definitely the way to go when looking for ready-to-wear looks from the runway.

On the other hand, Vera Wang blew us away with beautiful fitted pieces that would fit a more mature yet still stylish woman. Avoiding too much print, the star used simple lines to bring more character to her pieces and it’s easy to see that Vera wanted to create looks that lengthened legs and slimmed waists using strategically designed coats.

While strong, eye catching, and bold colours seem to be popular amongst the designers, Diesel Black Gold stayed true to their name and only showed black pieces. The tough looks were made by the heavy use of leather to give off a survivalist attitude that we definitely appreciated in contrast to all the girly looks we’ve been seeing.

Overall the runway impressed yet again (are we surprised?) and we know more is on its way. We thank Diesel for making the shows less predictable by bringing  tough looks to fashion week, however we still have a soft spot for the colourful and bright pieces we’ve seen so far and will be seeing again.
