Artist of the Month: Chvrches

Chvrches, (pronounced Churches), are a three-piece, indie synth-pop group from Glasgow. Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty all met at University, and have been playing together for about a year now. If you’re into Passion Pit, and would prefer much more regular beats than the dis-jointed, trembling (but beautiful) sounds of Purity Ring, we think you’re going to love Chvrches.
Cook and Doherty were the first to play together, and while recording in 2011, Mayberry was asked to sing on a couple of demos and voila, Chvrches were born. The band changed the “u” to a “v” in their name so that when their band name is searched in google, actual churches do not appear instead of their band - clever huh?
Their Recover EP is out on 25th March and the debut album is due out later this year, so take a listen, we’re expecting big things from these guys in 2013.
