Funky foods

Wednesday 6th February 2013 | Suzanne

We all might have eaten that slightly expired yoghurt or pizza in the fridge and listed it as one of the boldest things we ever did food-wise. But let’s face it, this is nothing compared to what is eaten in some other countries. The things that are considered as fine culinary treats in those places are considered as vile by the most of us. So, why not take a look at some of these bizarre foods and ask ourselves the question… would we dare to eat them?

-Fried Bat

Unfortunately a platter of ‘wings’ has a whole different meaning in Thailand. Fried bat is considered to be a nice crispy snack and what is a snack without dip? Yes, just dip that whole fried bat in some nice Thai dipping sauce and it will be like you’re eating doritos, no problems there.

-Snake blood

Yes Thailand is again on this list, with this quite unusual ingredient for cocktails and mixed drinks. It might even be some crazy way of payback. HA! HA! Take that snakes!

-Balut (half fertilized duck/chicken eggs)

In terms of the Easter spirit, you must try this wonderful dish from the Philipines. Don’t let your own or other people’s children try it though; it might traumatize them for life, which actually would be quite hilarious… no, don’t do that.

-Ox penis

This might seem very strange to us, but it is actually a common snack in the Far East. And hey, at least you know when your meal is happy to see you.

- Owl soup

A nice dish from China and trying it will definitely be a hoot and make your head spin.
