Interesting food facts.

Wednesday 6th February 2013 | Suzanne

Food, we all love it and stuff our faces with it more than we should. But how much do we actually know about food? Not to mention the fact that we rarely know the exact ingredients of what we’re eating in general, there must be some other things we don’t know about either. Well, yes, there is in fact a lot we don’t know about this realm called ‘food’ and the Guestlist Network did some exploring. Here are 5 bizarre facts you probably did not know about food.

- Eating cooked foods has made us human:

Yes you might not think it at first, but cooked foods are actually the reason why we are so evolved as a species. Raw foods simply did not supply us with enough calories needed to develop our brains and bodies properly. It was not until we started cooking foods that we had enough calories to our disposal on a daily basis. So whenever you’re doing well at work or school, thank that pile of cooked broccoli standing in the kitchen for providing you with the brain power to do so.

-The main ingredient for the first soup in the world was hippo-meat

Remember that muddy pool filled with hippos in the zoo? Our guess is that this pool is where the idea for soup originated from. Using hippos as a main ingredient seems only logical in that aspect.

-Apples are more useful than coffee for waking up in the morning

For those who can’t stand coffee but do like to wake up properly in the morning, this might be a nice solution. If you're like me and struggle in the mornings, then I suggest going for both. If you don’t like either, I’m surprised you’re even up to read this.

-Ketchup was initially created as a medicine.

Well, Dr. Heinz has certainly done wonders for a lot of people. What would life be without Ketchup...

The largest food item available on a menu ever is ‘Roasted camel’

This might be the most morbid arrangement of food available on a menu ever. Warning, the following information might be lethal to most Vegetarians and Vegans. This meal consists of a whole camel, stuffed with a sheep’s carcass, which then gets stuffed with numerous chickens, that are stuffed with fish, which are stuffed with eggs. Well, all that can be concluded from that is that this meal is sure to get you stuffed.
