5 Reasons to Work Hard

Other | Monday 4th February 2013 | Harry

Your parents have been telling you it since you could walk and talk; to work hard. Cue heads nodding and an overawing sense of resentment towards your dear rents. That’s because it is the most annoying thing to have to hear every day before you head to school. Then again before every term of uni, and then again before you start work experiences or that first job. The list could go on, you know what I’m saying. Every time they say it you just want to scream back at them, ‘I KNOW. I’M NOT A COMPLETE IDIOT JUST LET ME GET ON WITH IT.’

But, the thing is, and dare I say it. They were right. The bastards were right all along. Believe it or not they weren’t just trying to get on your nerves every day they were actually trying to help (shock horror). And just in case you still don’t believe me, here are five very good reasons why you should work hard in whatever it is you’re doing.

1.       MONEY- Obvious, obvious, obvious. Work hard and the chances are you’re going to succeed in something and hopefully earn a bit of cash for it. Money makes the world go round and so it sure comes in useful to have a bit kicking about. Think you’re gonna make money without some hard work?

2.       FREEDOM- This leads directly on from number one doesn’t it? With your hard earned cash you are now in a position to break free from the strangling grip of your parents and forge your path in life. Never can they hold you back again or influence you because they still hold the keys to the castle.

3.       WOMEN- (Now obviously this is coming from a man’s perspective but you can happily swap the sex...)Do you really think any respectable, potential lady friend is going to give you the time of day if you are a 30 year old weed smoking, trackie wearing, sofa hugging nobody? Exactly.

4.       POSSESSIONS- I know, it sounds superficial. But how many things are there that you see and wish you could buy? How many times have you said ‘I wish I was rich?’ Well here’s a thought, work hard and you could be! Work hard, earn some money and that iPad, or that 60” TV, or whatever it might be can actually become yours. What a simple thought.

5.       IT’S ACTUALLY BLOODY SATISFYING- As much as I’ve loved my formative years of doing, well not very much. At the end of the day, and youngsters you’ll learn this one day too, nothing beats really getting your head down and accomplishing something with your life. It’s cheesy yes and I’ve even tried to deny it myself. But you know what, now I just can’t.
