Is HMV going to be making a comeback?
Wednesday 16th January 2013 | David
Rumours are surfacing that a buyer has already come forward for the retailer.
Having only gone into administration a few days ago, it appears that a buyer may already be on the cards for HMV. Retail restructuring group Hilco already owns HMV Canada and is reported to be interested in taking on London stores as well. The HMV group desperately need some financial backing, having suspended shares from the London Stock Exchange yesterday.
Smaller bands looking to make a mark through physical sales, as well as employees of HMV, would welcome the move, although the store’s administrator Deloitte is not thought to have approached Hilco yet. It would also benefit customers who have outstanding vouchers or cards with HMV, which are no longer being accepted at stores.
With 38 per cent of physical music being sold through HMV, the sooner a buyer is found, the better.
