Third Man Records has got the blues

Other | Monday 14th January 2013 | David

The label will partner with Document Records, releasing three albums to launch its archival blues series.

Jack White’s record label, Third Man Records, is set to reissue the complete works of some seminal blues artists at the end of the month. In a statement on their website, Third Man said that “The recordings we'll be presenting in this reissue series are the building blocks and DNA of American culture. Blues, R&B, Elvis, teenagerism, punk rock . . . it all goes back to these vital, breath-taking recordings.”

The artists whose work will initially be released are Charlie Patton, Blind Willie McTell and the Mississippi Sheiks. Each will have a Completed Recorded Works in Chronological Order, the first volumes of which will be released on 29th January – and, for the first time in decades, they will all be available on vinyl. Further records are set to follow with new artists from Document Records’ catalogue.
