Hendrix reborn!
Tuesday 13th November 2012 | David
To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the legendary guitarist’s birth, cinemas across the globe will be showing a new presentation of Jimi Hendrix’s 1969 Woodstock performance.
It is one of the most famous live performances music has given us, and now it can be seen in all its glory. Jimi Hendrix’s set at Woodstock in August 1969 has been carefully reassembled by Michael Wadleigh from his archives of film footage, remastered by engineer Eddie Kramer and features a documentary directed by the Grammy Award winning Bob Smeaton, charting the difficulties of staging the festival and getting Hendrix on board to headline it.
The film features previously unseen interviews with band members, as well as Kramer himself and Woodstock’s promoter, Michael Lang. Kramer has restored the original gig footage with a new audio surround mix, allowing us to enjoy renditions of ‘Voodoo Child (Slight Return)’, ‘Fire’ and ‘Purple Haze’ – along with many other tracks – as never before. Hendrix’s sister Janie, who is CEO of Hendrix Experience, is “thrilled” at the fact that this seminal moment in rock history is to be shown in theatres.
Hendrix 70: Live From Woodstock will see limited releases from 26th November, so keep an eye out for tickets and viewing locations. Meanwhile, have a listen to the final song of his set that day, ‘Hey Joe’, and bask in Jimi’s glorious guitar artistry.
