Russell Howard’s Bad News

Funny man Howard upset at BBC.

Comedian Russell Howard has accused the BBC of censoring comedy during the Olympic Games. Howard has claimed that there wasn’t enough comedy on the BBC over the duration of the Olympics.  He told Digital Spy: ‘The powers that be didn’t want people making jokes about the Olympics, it’s too important apparently’. To be fair, anyone with a Twitter account that watched the closing ceremony was be-moaning Jessie J’s lack of self-awareness.  Personally, I found the whole thing hilarious, from the opening ceremony where the Queen jumped out of a helicopter, to the China vs. South Korea badminton ‘match’. I only stopped laughing when I realised how much the whole spectacle had cost me (not me personally obviously. I don’t pay taxes).  I don’t think we need Howard doing another hilarious voice of Boris Johnson over a clip of him on a zip wire. It’s funny enough.

To be fair to the BBC, the excellent sitcom Twenty Twelve was the perfect antidote to all the national pride and outpourings of support for ‘our’ athletes. I don’t think Russell should complain too much just because Mock The Weak, sorry Mock The Week, had been pulled for the duration of the Olympics (there are only so many female shot putting jokes you can listen to), his mug is back on our screens for a new series of Russell Howard’s Good News tonight (27th September) at 9pm on BBC Three.
