Rihanna teases new album with 'Diamonds'

With the release of her seventh studio album fast approaching, Rihanna has premiered the lead track ‘Diamonds’.
Written by Sia, the song is a change from the dance tunes and big beats of her last album Talk That Talk, which featured club favorite ‘We Found Love’, instead using a simple mid-tempo beat to provide just enough background music to Rihanna’s vocal track.
The lyrics suggest that the 24 year-old Bajan is feeling optimistic, putting her recent traumas behind her and looking to the future, with lines like "Find light in the beautiful sea/ I choose to be happy/ You and I, you and I/ We're like diamonds in the sky."
The construction of the song is surprisingly simple, with an absorbing beat driving through the song. Rihanna’s vocal seems more stripped back than the over-worked track of her more upbeat songs, and may demonstrate a new sound direction for the singer.
