Obscure genres you’ve never heard of... CRUNKCORE

Other | Monday 24th September 2012 | Annalisa

You can always tell a genre is woefully obscure when it has multiple names. Have you ever heard of Crunk Punk? What about Scunk? Screamo Crunk? No? Well then you’ve defiantly never heard of CRUNKCORE then.

Pioneered (if that’s the right word?) by Panic! At the Disco back in 2005, and developed by the band 3OH!3 (Why do all these bands insist on using exclamation marks!!??).  This ‘progressive music’ is a unique mix of Hip Hop, Screamo, Metal, and best of all, Auto-Tuned vocals.  Yes, that’s right music fans.  It uses the same production techniques as Cher, Dane Bowers and Akon.  If that has not made you want to poke a biro into your ears, then read on.

If you’re serious about getting into CRUNKCORE, then your first stop should be Albuquerque band brokeNCYDE (or broke inside, which is what I hope is happening to their records). This band came to prominence through their video ‘Freaxxx’ (with three X’s please), which has clocked a staggering 7 million views, 6.9 million of them ironically, by me. It’s a baffling 3 min 53 seconds of haircuts, neon and ‘Freaxxx’. I’m not sure if ‘Freaxxx’ refers to the beautiful girls who are daggering all over the bands mum’s garden, or the band themselves. I highly recommend you watch it.

This genre has been universally panned by music critics, which makes it all the more enjoyable. So if you want to listen to more of this Scunk, then check out my recommendations. Happy listening ‘Freaxxx!!!!!!!!!!’
