The Return of the 1990's

Since the gradual return of big hair and leggings of the 80's in fashion we knew that the 90's wouldn't be far behind. Grunge, preppy and punk trends are back. Sometimes walking around London feels like being in ‘Clueless’ with the knee high socks, crop tops and the little ruck sacks which couldn’t possibly carry everything you need for the day but look cute anyway. If you look at this return carefully you can spot three main trends. Firstly we have the grunge look which consists of baggy checked shirts, combat colours with skinny bottoms and dirty converse, vans or keds, for a more girlie look flower power is seen to mix with hard core shoes like Dr. martens so take your pick. Secondly there is the trend that has exploded in high fashion and this is the early 90s punk look where we see creepers, spikes, piercings and metal (a lot of it). The metal is mixed with blue denim or leather and heaps of black. This is also mixed in with a bit of bright lipstick and intense hairstyles. Lastly but certainly not least there is the preppy look which can only be perfectly described by the characters Cher and Dee in ‘Clueless’. This look is somewhat lighter than the others but still sexy. The matching high waisted skirts are the most appealing items in this trend. These are making a great comeback and they are so fun.
In many ways there was a certain scepticism about the return of the 90s but this has returned in class without the big puffer jackets and crazy clothes that were worn by the Spice Girls. Bringing back the 90s now is actually cool and can be done with pride. Fashion is always recycled so embrace your clothes.
