Paid a Pound to Perform at the Olympics

Tuesday 31st July 2012 | Osh

It has been reported today that artists Dizzee Rascal, Arctic Monkeys, Paul McCartney and Emeli Sande were paid a measly pound for their performances at the Opening Olympic Ceremony. Although the musicians signed a contract with the organisers of the games to receive the intended amount but some are still waiting to retrieve their payment. Emeli Sande who performed the hymn ‘Abide With Me’ claimed “I got paid a pound for my work. It’s there in print and I know because I signed the contract myself”.

Although the musicians are still waiting for their cash, or coin to be precise, the actual sales of the album from the Opening Ceremony titled ‘Isles of Wonder’ appears to be doing pretty well in the iTunes album chart, reaching number One in France, Belgium, Spain and Britain. Surely they’ll be making some form of profit from that...?

Have a listen to the Arctic Monkeys' version of 'Come Together' below which they performed at the Opening Ceremony. Worth a pound?
