The New Beat To Dance To
The emergence of the new genre Afrobeats has taken well to the UK music scene over the past 12 months. Artists such as D’Banj, Wiz Kid, 2face, Ice Prince and many more were more popular in the club scene where the catchy beats and tight flows and rhythms made it very easy to dance to with various dance moves such as the azonto (YouTube it) you will probably try to dance to it. D’banj who is signed by Kanye West had a big hit with ‘Oliver Twist’ took the charts by storm with this Afrobeat song. The term Afrobeat came from Choice FM, Dj Abrantee used this term to bring the style of African music into the UK scene without changing its style.
Afrobeats are sounds from old school traditional Nigerian and Ghanaian beats but with the mix of 21st century trends such as hip hop, grime and funky house. Many big stars have taken the opportunity from emerging Afrobeats artists and signed them to their labels as they know Afrobeats is an emerging and popular trend. Akon is another mogul who has grasped at various artists such as Wiz Kid and Psquare and signed them to his label. D’banj recently played at The BIG Hackney Weekender in front of thousands of fans and is set to perform at The Wireless this weekend. DJ Abrantee has helped with the emergence of Afrobeats as he plays various tunes throughout his time on Choice with its wide audience.
