KMT and New Microphone Cyphas

Specialising in UK black and urban music, KMT, aka Ian Solomon Kawall, has been a radio and live DJ for well over a decade, playing all over the world, from Ghana to Glastonbury. Now based in London, he also runs workshops for young people, focusing on the power of music to help educate, inspire change, and create positivity. “Music is a messenger and is good for raising awareness of social issues such as racism,” he says.
Among many other projects, KMT runs a company called New Microphone Cyphas, where MCs come together to rhyme, rap and create music. Rather than the usual battles of insults and put-downs, Ian’s crew prefer to focus on collaboration and co-operation, to improve, teach, and make better music together. Thinking of Jay-Z and Kanye’s amazing collaborations this year, could this be the future of hip hop?
