It is a weird and crazy world we are living in, indeed, and here at TGN we like to celebrate that. In this new column, Harry Cathead is looking at what makes the underground society, well, underground - giving you the basic info about what the different persuasions of people are about.
Let us start with the psy kids.
Psy culture is all about sharing. From love to cigarettes, beer, clothes, a mattress and everything else inbetween, these people are true communists, in the best possible sense of the word. They don’t believe in personal possessions at all. Living in a squat, going to psychedelic trance festivals, eating mushrooms, smoking weed and dancing is the psy way: a continuous liminal state.
They have a really powerful sense of community and taking care of each other. They wear baggy clothes made of natural fibres in bright colours. The clothes are baggy for dancing comfort and the colours are bright for the visual trip. Fractal patterns are also good for the visual trip, and the psy kids don fractals in their tattoos, accessories and art. As for the philosophy, a Buddhist flavour prevails - love, unity and respect for life. We are all one, life is a surreal journey of discovery and violence is taboo.
Anybody who ever accidentally crashed a psy trance outdoor rave knows that this subculture is fascinating and full of positivity - sort of a human antidepressant. The real world, however, is out of sight and for that reason, everyone needs a psy trip once in awhile, to remind themselves about the seriousness of it all.
