Grandmother Given Asbo For Listening To Frank Sinatra Too Loud

Thursday 12th April 2012 | Osh

An almost deaf grandmother was given an asbo for playing Frank Sinatra and Glenn Miller songs on her radio too loudly.

Neighbours complained about widow Georgina Sims from Gosport, Hants for banging her walking stick on the wall and playing music day and night.  They said they endured "13 months of hell."

Chris and Tony Adams were asked to keep a record of the noise after they complained in 2010. But Mrs Sims continued and was given an Asbo in October.

Mr Adams 54, said he feels let down and the law needs to be changed.

However, Mrs Sims daughter does not feel the punishment is right. She said her mother banged on the wall because “her hearing condition (tinnitus) caused her to hear sounds that were not there, and meant she had to turn her radio up to drown them out".

Bev Batten, 58, said it was obvious her mother needed help but didn’t get it. She had no vendetta against her neighbours and taking her to court was not the best thing to do.

A council spokesman said it was necessary as a last resort.  It could have been worse, she could have been blasting Jedward!
