Paul McCartney: Don’t Pressurise Bands

Friday 30th March 2012 | Osh

The musician said that being labelled the next Beatles is a ‘kiss of death.’

He doesn’t want to join in with the hype surrounding new British Bands like One Direction, as he thinks it puts too much pressure on the acts.

He said lots of bands are called the next Beatles. “Oasis were once if you remember, you know, and it’s a pressure and suddenly you have to live up to all the things we did.  It was a different time so let’s just call them the next terrific band.”

He has wished One Direction luck though, after they appeared to be taking America by storm.

He said he likes it that his children aren’t affected by his fame.  “Oh shut up I am trying to watch the TV.  And I say, yes, but I am trying to write a song.  This could be good.”
