The street parade is back in Berlin!

The relationship between the city of Berlin and street parades has always been a complicated one. Since it became a not-to-be-missed event,The Love Parade, an annual gathering conceived in 1989 by Dr Motte as a political demonstration for worldwide peace through music and love, had to face harsh protests and a continuous disapproval by the local council. Health and environmental issues forced the organisers to cancel the summer parade in 2004-5 and later to move their beloved event to the Ruhr area, where it would eventually be suspended on a permanent basis following a catastrophic tragedy.

Less than two years later, a group of Berliner promoters is trying to bring a street event back to the German capital. B-Parade is the name of the new-born project, which, despite not considering itself a simple revival of Love Parade, draws largely on the essential elements of that landmark event: huge trucks hosting the best underground labels and their DJs, a route in the centre of the city and thousands of party-goers from all around the world.

Last February the organizers released a statement on the event website saying: “Berlin as the capital of music deserves an event that has no equals. B-Parade will be a new, unique parade festival of electronic music which will bring street events back to their roots. In the context of internationalization, B-Parade will host special trucks dedicated to single countries, which could in this way showcase their peculiar musical culture.”

The parade, which has yet to receive the council’s allowance, should take place on 17th June this year.
