Curious Owl Contorts Neck To Peer At Prowling Photographer

Friday 2nd March 2012 | Osh

The curious one year old bird was snapped in Washington, after the photogpraher thought he had avoided detection.

Nillson said ‘I had used my car as a hide and the owls could only see the movement of my lens.’

He said that after a while the birds would carry on with their activities, as if oblivious to his presence.

But it seems like this one particular owl (one of nine chicks) was more intrigued than the others.

Owls rely on drastic neck movements to observe predators since they have eyes that are fixed.  They can twist their head up to 270 degrees!
