Noel Gallagher: Great Music Is Dead

Saturday 25th February 2012 | Osh

Never one to mince his words, the former Oasis star has taken a swipe at the British music industry and claimed that ‘great music died’ years ago.

For the past 20 years his outspoken rants and opinions have caused controversy and he shows no sign of mellowing with age.

He topped the charts with his first High Flying Birds album last year and in a nostalgic manner points out that he believes things are getting worse.

‘Remember when there were all cool bands in the chart? Oasis, Blur, Pulp and The Verve?’  He even criticises some of today’s most successful artists individually.

‘Now it’s Jessie J and f****ng Duffy.  Everybody’s got records featuring somebody else.  It’s either a s**t rap about somebody’s struggle, or just f****ng  s**t music set to some reggae backbeat sung in some transatlantic f****ng accent.  And then they’ll throw some Cockney in just to keep it f****ng real.’

He did suggest though that his age may have something to do with his views on new acts.  ‘I’m sure they’re not trying to please a 44-year-old dad of three.’

Noel is in the middle of a world tour currently and will perform in London, Glasgow and Birmingham over the next week.
