Happy Birthday Kurt Cobain!

Today would have been musical legend Kurt Cobain’s 45 birthday!
Kurt Cobain was born in 1967. He started the grunge band Nirvana in 1988, who shot to stardom when they signed with Geffen Records in 1991.
Their album Nevermind and single Smells Like Teen Spirit were massive hits and started a music trend known as grunge.
They combined deafening, almost heavy- metal guitars with a real sense of harmony and song writing. Proving their popularity, in one year Nirvana sold more than Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson combined.
However the success didn’t last very long- their following album sold less well and Cobain committed suicide on April 5th 1994. He was part of the 27 club, a group of prominent musicians who died at the age of 27. This was often as a result of ‘precipitous lifestyles that made them candidates for early self- destruction.’ Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones, Jim Morrison and more recently Amy Winehouse are amongst the ‘curse of 27.’
