Houston Family Unlikely To Benefit From Record Sales

Despite her songs flying off of the shelves, it is highly unlikely that the Houston estate will benefit from the soaring sales.
It is likely that at least seven of her hits are to re- enter the charts and feature in the UK top 40 this weekend after fans rushed out to buy her music. In the US alone, the weekly sales of her music have jumped nearly 60 times whilst radio play has also increased. But Miss Houston didn’t write any of her hit songs and she didn’t share any publishing rights, so it is said that her cut will be a lot less than many would have anticipated. It is in fact Sony Legacy Records that owns her back catalogue of albums and so the Houston estate simply gets paid royalties for her singing.
It is predicted that I Will Always Love You will hit number ten in the official UK Singles Chart and is already at number one in the iTunes chart. It spent ten weeks at number one when it was first released in 1992. From this hit, Dolly Parton, the original singer and writer of this song, is set to make a significant amount of money from this hit again.
