The Rise Of The Old Age Fashionista, mature women out dressing their daughters

Model Christine Brinkley, 58, spoke about the pressure that her daughter regularly faces, because she hasn’t inherited her mother’s model looks. That being shorter, olive skinned and without her innate fashion sense.
Brinkley said that despite her daughter’s criticisms over her appearance ‘She is her own gorgeous, unique person.’
Then there’s Pippa Middleton, who made headlines last year for arguably upstaging sister Kate at the Royal wedding, but even she has now been outshone by her mother. Carole Middleton, 57, made the top 20 or so in a recent vogue.com style poll. However Pippa wasn’t even featured.
This trend can even be seen on TV’s Ab Fab where Saunder’s character Edina describes her famously less glam daughter Saffy as a ‘Stale old piece of toast.’
Psychologist Leila Collins said this is due to older women wanting to be more glamourous nowadays, whereas the younger generation can’t keep up while they are juggling careers, family and social lives. Looking good isn’t so much of a priority.
Market researchers Mintel have found that people in their 50s and above tend to buy more designer fashion and luxury goods.
However it seems that even high street stores such as Topshop, New Look and H&M are aware to stock for all ages. This is because they have a range of suitable, stylish clothing to suit people over 40, which stops them just wearing elasticated trousers and cardigans.
